Busy, Busy, Busy!

Summer is here in full swing and Shane is taking full advantage of the warm weather! It is sometimes hard to keep up with his busy schedule! For example, on Saturday Shane had a music class through the park district at 9:30 and we ran from there to a toddler dance party at the library at 10:30. Today we had Lapsit at the Joliet library and then ran to the Plainfield library to watch a children's music show... more on all of these things later. Dan asked me this afternoon, "What does Shane have tomorrow? I really need to get some stuff done!" We love keeping Shane busy and love watching him blossom from an adorable baby to a stunning toddler! This is just my next excuse for why I am not getting this blog updated more!
We kicked off summer with a visit to the doctor on June 11th for Shane's 15 month check up. He is weighing in at 27 pounds and a few ounces and is 29.75 inches long. He is in the 85th percentile for weight and the 10th for height. He is healthy and on track! We celebrated the great visit by having lunch with Grandma Greenfield and going for a swim in her pool. Shane is obsessed with the water and had a blast! Dan met us there after work and even got in 15 minutes of swimming. We will be going back soon! Here are some pictures from the day!

On June 13th I had a wedding shower for my cousin and Shane and Dan headed over to John and Geri's house for the afternoon. Dan did not take any pictures, but he did call me to report that Shane fell and had a scratch on his face. When they got home, I saw a bump on his head and a huge scrape from falling into a rock. Shane is a great walker, but he still resembles a sailor who has had a bit too much to drink. He also does not like having his hand held when he walks - those things make for a poor combination. Dan felt bad and was right behind him when he fell. I took these pictures and told Dan I was going to title this post "What happens when Daddy is in charge" I didn't do it (obviously), but Colleen sent some pictures and wrote that on the back! Great minds must think alike! Shane survived the first injury from a fall - I am sure it will not be the last!

Cathy and I headed up to "Little Monkey Bizness" with Alex and Shane one rainy June morning. The boys had a BLAST! Shane is walking all of the time now and he loved the balls, tunnels, & mats!

Father's Day was wonderful! Dan was spoiled rotten by Shane who made him a platter (with a little help from mom) with his hand print on it, a new trimmer, and some books for his classroom. We had my parents and Dan's parents over as well as my sister and her fiance!!! Yes, I said fiance!!!! They go engaged the night before and we are soooo excited! I'd love to show you all of the great pictures from the day of the dad' opening gifts, Jorie's ring, Shane kissing his grandparents, but guess what? We sis not take any! How is that even possible??? I remembered once everyone left so we took a picture of Dan and Shane and me and Shane, but that is it!

One of Shane's favorite summertime games is walking around in Dan's baseball hats. They fall over his eyes and he can't see, but he loves them because they are his dad's - it is really cute. He does not like any other hats on his head at all, but Dan's he asks for!

Oh, and if you are looking at these pictures and thinking that you should submit my name for "World's Messiest House" or some show in that vein, I promise I do clean my house! It just takes Shane all of 5 minutes to pull out EVERY toy he owns. So far, my efforts to teach him the joy of putting his toys away have been unsuccessful! Oh well...
On June 22nd we headed to 'The Cell' to watch the Sox play. We went to the game with both sets of grandparents and Shane did great! Even though some of the pictures seem to tell a different story. You see we were leaving in the 7th inning and realized we never got a picture of Shane with Grandpa Bob (we took one with Grandma Carolyn early in the game) or Grandma Judy (Again, we took one with Grandpa Irwin earlier in the game) and stupidly attempted to get the picture before we left. It was after 9 PM (Shane goes to bed between 7 & 7:30) and his crankiness was why we decided to leave. Why we thought he would not mind being passed like a hot potato when he was tired and cranky is beyond me, but we did & he didn't. Oh well... The game, besides a fun outing, was a test to see whether Shane could handle a baseball game now that he can walk because we had tickets to the Crosstown Classic the following weekend and hoped to take him. We knew that the Sox would not be sold out (or even close - are they a major league team??? OK, Sox fans - be nice! I like the Sox and am joking, but the Cubs will always have my heart.) the night we went with our parents so getting Shane in and out of his seat would be easy. It turns out that Shane enjoyed making friends and smiling, but did not enjoy our laps. Fortunately, there were plenty of empty seats, so he had his own and had a blast. Unfortunately, we only purchased 2 for the Cubs/Sox game and therefore decided to leave Shane at home because we know that series always sells out and they were promising storms all day. Shane on our laps in a hot rain delay was not an appealing thought. My parents watched Shane and he wore his Cubs shorts, Sox top, & Cubs hat at home. I have no pictures of Dan and I at the series because when we don't have Shane, we never think to bring the camera. Ok, that was long and winded... here are the Sox game pictures. I especially love the one of Dan and Shane talking with Dan's mom by the railing and the one where my dad is kissing Shane!

The morning after the game Shane slept until 8!!!! He never sleeps past 7 even when he goes to bed late so that tells you how pooped he was! Once he got up, it was time to go! Shane is in the Summer Reading Program at the library and they had a block party with a petting zoo last Wednesday. The only problem was that it was pouring! We called the library and they assured us that everything was inside except the animals which were under a tent on the lawn. That sounded good to us so we headed out. Most of the arts and crafts projects were for older kids so Dan made one for Shane and then Dan and Shane had some ice cream. Once the rain let up we headed out to the petting zoo. We started off with Shane in his stroller because the tent was really a canopy and it did nothing to keep anything dry. The animals were soaked and the grass caked in mud. FUN! Shane and I went inside and it quickly became apparent that he wanted out of the stroller, so out he went. We were both very muddy (Dan stayed out of the animal area to take pictures - he is a smart man!) We hosed ourselves off after we left, but it still took 2 more washings to get the mud out of my sandals. Shane loved it though, so it was worth the effort even if I can still feel the wet, muddy sheep in my dreams...

Saturday was Shane's final music class from the park district (he starts family playtime in a few weeks) and the toddler dance party. The music class was OK, but the dance party was AWESOME! They had hoola hoops, instruments, shaky eggs, dancing scarves, pom poms, bubbles, crafts, snack stations, and quiet areas! There were 100 kids and loud toddler music! It was a blast! Shane has been dancing a ton since the party - I need to get that on video! There is a short video at the end of the pictures.

After the excitement of the morning, we hit a few garage sales, bought Shane a sled for next winter, and had Bob, Linda, Joey, & Susie over for dinner. You would love the pictures if we had remembered to take any!!! UGHHH! Joey is so funny and he had a great time playing pool with Dan and Bob! Susie was so sweet and wonderful with Shane - she is just adorable! Sunday dan and I headed to the Cubs/Sox game. Shane stayed home with his grandparents. On Monday Dan headed to Bloomington, Il. He was was invited to attend the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics retreat. Dan was there until Tuesday afternoon so I had some sisterly bonding. Shane & I picked Jorie up Monday morning & we went to the zoo for the day. Unfortunately, all of the animals (except the giraffes) we went to see were sound asleep. Shane found a splash fountain and ran right in it in all of his clothes. I did not have any spare outfits, but figured it was warm enough and he would dry. He loved it! He was putting his head right where the water splashes up! He has NO fear of water and LOVES it! LUCKY ME! I am going to need to watch him closely!!! If Jorie and I hadn't been chasing him through the fountain, that would have made for a great photo opportunity! >

Today Shane saw Super Stolie at the Plainfield library. He was on the young end for the show, but had a great time! She was wonderful with the kids and is performing Saturday at the Taste of Chicago if you want to check her out! Here are some pictures from the show!

On Friday we are heading up to Summerfest in Milwaukee and will spend the night - look for an update soon! Shane wants to say congrats to his Aunt Jorie & soon-to-be-Uncle Jason on their engagement and he is sorry he missed his cousin Joey's graduation party on Sunday!

Almost 15 months!!!

Shane has been keeping us very busy! Now that the little man is walking (well, he walks 50% of the time - he still crawls faster, but he is becoming a great little walker) he has found ways to get into even more trouble! He also gets cuter by the second! This morning he tried to unplug my cell phone (the outlet is on our breakfast bar and does not have a safety plug in it because we use it all of the time.) Shane knows he is not supposed to touch it... so as he reached for my phone, he said, "No, no, no." He also says, "no, no, no" before splashing in Thunder's dog bowl or trying to remove our carbon monoxide detector. It is hard not to laugh because he says it in a serious tone, not his happy voice. He knows he shouldn't do it, but tries anyway. He usually stops as soon as I say no. He is becoming such a little ham!
OK, so what has Shane been up to? Well, he went to his first book signing. Laura Numeroff, the famed children's book author who wrote "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", was in Naperville. Shane had 4 of her books and we purchased another one at the store. We assumed there would not be many people, we assumed wrong! We also did not know that I could have called on the phone and purchased a book earlier in the week in order to secure my place in line. That would have saved us a ton of time. You see, we were number 66, but it appears that there were several people with the same numbers so who knows how many were really in front of us. We met another person with our number and a couple of 53's and 58's... We also forgot the stroller - oops! We switched off holding the not so little man, but it was a long 2.5 hours.
Shane watching Laura Numeroff read one of her books!

Shane's books all being signed and personalized!

After the big signing, we celebrated by having lunch at "Choo Choo Johnny's" and we remembered the camera. I am not sure who enjoys it more - Dan or Shane. Shane liked looking at the model trains and he liked it when the food came out on the train. He ate most of his cheeseburger and shared an ice cream with Dan! Here are pictures of my little engineer!

We also enlisted Shane's help when planting our garden this year. Here he is helping Dan plant some basil!

After the basil, Shane was bored and we brought out the water table! What an AWESOME gift! Thanks, Kristine! He had a blast getting wet and playing in the water!

Shane and I headed out to the Museum of Science and Industry to celebrate Jorie's birthday and join her on a field trip. Shane was terrific as usual and Jorie's students recognized him before we even saw Jorie. They were cute and the trip was fun. They stayed in the space section of the museum and I had a great time teaching them the history of US space flight while Jorie had a great time bonding with Shane. Here is the cute little man before we left for the museum.

And here are some pictures from the museum. It is really dark in there so they are hard to see.

Shane has been so busy with so many other things - I have just been terrible about remembering my camera. I forgot it for my sister's birthday celebration, for countless trips to the park, when my parents and Dan's parents have been here, when Debbie was here Saturday... Oh well, I'll be better - I promise. Anyway, Shane did get an awesome new pool from Bertha & Ken that I can't wait to try out this weekend so pictures will be coming soon! Shane also got a great package from Jason's mom in Texas - full of a San Antonio Spurs cap, a golfing cap & a lizard puppet! So thoughtful!!!!
Finally, one of Shane's best new skills is kissing. He has fallen madly in love with his blue lamb and a singing dog I gave Dan for Valentine's Day while we were dating. Shane loves them and loves to kiss them - big, giant, open mouth smooches! He also loves most stuffed animals, but these are his favorites. It is so cute! He also wants Dan and I to kiss them all of the time. He also gives kisses to people - mostly closed mouth kisses, but occasionally you will get lucky and get a big open mouth one. They are so sweet! We took Shane for pictures and the girl was using a teddy bear to make him smile and he grabbed it and tried to open mouth kiss it! I had to stop that one fast - can you imagine the germs on that thing? EWWWWW! Aunt Joan gave Shane a stuffed Patrick (from Sponge Bob) and he has become Shane's car kissing companion. We get in the car and I say, :Where is Patrick?" and before I know it, Shane has him in a lip lock. It makes strapping him in the car seat so much easier! Here are some pictures and video of my sweet, sweet boy and his kissing pals!
Here he is puckering up for a kiss!

And going in for the big kiss!

When you really love a little lamb, you kiss its entire head!

Now it is my turn to give him a big kiss!

And here is some video! My little guy got a little shy when he saw the camera - sooo cute!

Shane wants to say congratulations to his cousin Bob who graduated from Notre Dame and his cousin Joe who is graduating from high school! We love you and are sooo proud of you!! Shane also wants to wish Aunt Joan a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY (June 14th)
